JPSC Food Safety Officer Exam Pattern 2023
The Candidate will have to appear and to go though the following stages along with the given subjects/papers to ensure their selection as a Food Safety Officer(FSO).
JPSC Food Safety Officer (FSO) mainly will consists of following stages :-
Stage - I : Written Examination (200 Marks)
The candidates firstly will have to appear for written examination of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based paper.
This examination will be conducted to assess the candidates’ knowledge and understanding of relevant subjects such as - Food safety & Standards Act, 2006, Food Safety & Standards Rules & Regulation, 2011.
The syllabus has been explained in detail given below.
Stage - II : Interview (30 Marks)
The selected candidate at Stage - I based on minimum cut-off marks prescribed by JPSC, will have to appear before the interview panel consisting the member of related field.
The interview will assess the candidates’ communication skills, personality traits, and suitability for the Food Safety Officer position.
Stage-III : After the interview
The candidates who qualify, will be required to undergo document verification. This process ensures the authenticity of the candidates’ educational qualifications, experience, and other relevant documents submitted during the application process.
Stage - IV : Medical Test
The selected candidates will be required to undergo a medical test to assess their medical fitness for the position of Food Safety Officer.

The Principles of Food Preservation, Processing and Packaging
- Food Processing Operations, Principles, Good Manufacturing Practices
- Overview of food preservation methods and their underlying principles including novel and emerging methods/principles
- Overview of food packaging methods and principles including novel packaging materials and techniques
- Structure and functions of micro and macro nutrients
- Role of macro and micro nutrients in human nutrition
- Overview of food additives with respect to their technological functions
- Overview of anti-nutritional factors and their removal from foods
- Overview of enzymes as food processing aids
- Overview of nutraceuticals and functions foods
- Overview of food contaminants and adulterants and their effects on human health
- Food allergens and allergenicity
- Importance of diet in alleviating health risks, specially non-communicable diseases
- General principles of food microbiology and overview of food borne pathogens
- Overview of sources of microorganisms in food chain (raw materials, water, air, equipment etc) and microbiological quality of foods
- Microbial food spoilage and food borne diseases
- General principles and techniques in microbiological examination of foods
- Overview of beneficial microorganisms and their role on food processing and human nutrition

Interview : 30 Marks
